Ralf Wosik – A Borussia old hand and real team player
It was a sensation as both of the table tennis talents Ralf Wosik and Hajo Nolton 1975 left the ordinary level of the school and became profis at Borussia Düsseldorf. A thing like that did not excisted in Germany before. But Hans-Wilhelm Gäb initiated for both of them a model which is til yet unique: Wosik and Nolten completed at the sport company of Foruna Düsseldorf legend Matthias Mauritz a apprenticeship to a retail dealer which was so aligned of them that they could train two times of the day.
With Matthias Gantner it gave initialy a trainer who take care of both of them although on a ot full-time base. Ralf Wosik was valid as spin orientated attacking player together with Hajo Nolten as also Peter Stellwag and Peter Engel, the greatest table tennis talent from his generation. The step in to the professionalism pays off for the native vorn Westphalia from Hamm: Already in the same year Wosik won with PSV Borussia initially the german championship and 1975/76 he plays a balance with 21:4 at the middle brace cross.
In the eighties generated Ralf Wosik to a embodiment of Borussia Düsseldorf: In a close cooperation with Wilfried Micke, who lead the club, the man with the blond strand of hair as a trademark stood as team captian like no one else for the success of the younger years. With Desmond Douglas he keen the spectators and was nine times german champion with Borussia Düsseldorf, seven times german cup winner and won 1986/87 the ETTU-Cup together with Jörgen Persson and Jörg Roßkopf also he won 1988/89 the european cup of national championship with "Rossi" and "Speedy" Fetzner. Additionally he took part at six world championships and seven european championships and passed 102 caps. Also at the german championships he carried himself with 3 titles at "mixed" and 3 titles at double in the winner lists, only the single title missed in his collection: Wosik lost the final four times against Georg Böhm.
Today's Manager and "Mr. Borussia" Andreas Preuß came of initiative from Ralf Wosik to Borussia. As the both "youngster" Jörg Roßkopf and Steffen Fetzner in the mid-eightees came to the club, Wosik took them under one's wings. He let them live for a time at his place and drew himself back to the second brace cross in favor of the young Fetzner.
Already since 1979 he was a co-partner of the table tennis shop of Borussia Düsseldorf from Schöler&Micke from Dortmund. At the WC 1989 in Dortmund Ralf Wosik finished his long and successful carrier as an international table tennis profi. He obtained Borussia Düsseldorf for a while as coach, until he retired himself from the active happenings 1992. Since this time he focused on the activities at Schöler&Micke. Nevertheless he held the club always his loyalty. Today he is active for the administrativ board and supports the Borussia since the last 25 years in multiple form. Since this time he is a booster of the first kids olympics (today Kids Open) which celebrating this year its 25 years jubilee.
With Ralf Wosik the Borussia obliged 1974 a real team player who coined the club 16 years - a reao Borussia prehistoric rock.
