THE CLUB

The professional team remains Borussia Düsseldorf's sporting flagship. Even though it did not win the title in the 2024/25 season, the club continues to stand for top performance, passion and professionalism in table tennis. The past season was characterized by changes, upheavals and challenges. At the same time, however, it also provided new impetus that points the way to the future.

For the first time in almost two decades, Borussia will be competing in the 2025/26 season without Timo Boll, who has ended his active career. The upheaval is palpable, both in sporting and emotional terms. However, the team has been strengthened with the addition of Kanak Jha, who already has Bundesliga experience, and the training-focused left-hander Yongyin “Leo” Li. Together with the established players Dang Qiu, Anton Källberg and Borgar Haug, a new chapter is to be written in the coming season. The German record champions have 78 national and international titles to their name. For head coach Danny Heister, the goal for the new season is clear: to come together and ultimately compete for more titles.

The winning streak of Borussia's wheelchair Bundesliga team is also absolutely incredible: they became German team champions for the ninth time in a row in 2025. Valentin Baus, Tom Schmidberger and Sandra Mikolaschek have formed an indomitable trio since 2017.

Borussia made history at youth level in the 2023/2024 season: the boys' and girls' U13, U15 and U19 teams became West German champions. Never before has a club won all possible titles at this level. Three out of six possible titles were also won in the past season.

Borussia Düsseldorf is very active in the amateur and youth sector: ten men's teams, five women's teams, one girls' team and nineteen school and youth teams played for the club in a wide variety of leagues in 2024/25. From the women's Regionalliga West to the men's Kreisklasse, the club has 550 members (as of June 2025).

Our players have achieved numerous team and individual successes in the age groups up to U19. This prepares them well for inclusion in the squad planning for the men's and women's teams. This includes the second men's team, which turned things around last season after a weak first half of the season and secured its starting place in the NRW Oberliga with a strong second half and relegation. The women's first team, on the other hand, was unable to avoid relegation from the 3rd Bundesliga due to a number of personnel changes, but six players under the age of 18 were able to gain their first Bundesliga experience in the past season. This means that young talents are increasingly taking on responsibility in the competitive field.

Borussia is also continuously expanding its involvement in para sports. Two wheelchair teams will compete in the 2025/26 season. One in the 1st Bundesliga, the other in the 2nd Bundesliga Nord. The record-breaking champions also have a broad base of “pedestrians”: Four teams represent the club in the Oberliga NRW. In addition, various inclusion groups regularly find a sporting home at Staufenplatz.

Since 1988, Borussia Düsseldorf has also been organizing the andro Kids Open (formerly the Children's Table Tennis Olympics) - Europe's largest children's and youth tournament, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019.

Until the coronavirus pandemic, up to 1,500 kids competed in this mammoth tournament every year in August. The youngsters aged 6-17 determined their winners in several age groups at around 80 tables. There is no other junior table tennis tournament in Europe comparable to the Kids Open! In 2020 and 2021, the andro Kids Open took place as part of the Heimatsommer and with many “Corona” adjustments and significantly fewer participants. After a slightly smaller edition in 2022, the tournament will once again be very well attended this year after a long period of restrictions with almost 1,000 children and young people from 20 countries. In addition, there will be around 500 supervisors and a good 100 volunteers who will provide the talented table tennis players with an unforgettable weekend.

Since 1994, the club has had its own table tennis center, which houses a sports hotel, the multi-sports hall ARAG CenterCourt and the andro table tennis school. Borussia also has a strong social commitment, including projects such as "Borussia hilft" (Borussia helps), the "Tischtennis-Pausenkönig" (table tennis break king), the "PinkPongParkinson" training group, as well as "Inklusionssport Tischtennis und Autismus" (inclusive table tennis and autism) and the activities surrounding the LVR school and the LVR clinic.
