Jörgen Persson – The nice swede with the fast legs

Actual came Jörgen Persson as a stopgap to Borussia Düsseldorf 1985: Our manager Wilfried Micke negotiated witht he polish star Andrzej Grubba but he decided to go to the rival team TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau.

The young, promising swede was on offer and so he was the new number one in the season 1985/86 of Borussia Düsseldorf - before Ralf Wosik, Cornel Borsos, Steffen Fetzner, Matthias Hörning and Andreas Preuß. The 19 years old scandinavian placed himself with his hounest, friendly and funny temper directly in to the team and played a good season with Borussia - at the end the team stood in the final of the german championship.

In april 1986 Persson won at the european championship in Prag entirely surprising the single title befor the polish man Leszek Kucharski. This was til this time of his carrier his greates success. At the Bundesliga final in june he only won the opening double with Matthias Höring against SSV Heinzelmann Reutlingen – At the single matches he lost against Peter Stellwag and Mikael Appelgren. Indeed with a big struggle won the Borussia at the end with 9:7 against Reutlingen and were german champion. Persson stayed for an another season.

In the season 1986/87 he competed with Jörg Roßkopf and Ralf Wosik besides the Bundesliga also at the ETTU-Cup and this time he won with the team the first ETTU-Cup of the club history. After this success he left the Borussia toward sweden - his big carrier had began at his time by Borussia Düsseldorf.

1991 he became single world champion in Japan and also for the second time team world champion after 1989. After this victory followed two world championship titles with the team as also five team european championship titles and several times pedestal placements at the single matches. 1991 he won also the world cup in Kuala Lumpur. His greatest success at the olympic games was in the year 2000 in Sydney the fourth place. Which one he repeated 2008 in Peking with sensational 42 years. he is europe top12 winner (1992) and also five-time swedish champion as also two-time winner of a ProTour tournament.

Jörgen Persson - one of the best players our club history!
